Fine work all around, Lance. I wish you patience with the push rods, this issue is surely worth correcting.

Thanks Patrick and Prze, your comments are very much appreciated! I'm presently still working on the pushrod replacements on the kit engine, some very delicate work, particularly drilling out the "lifter" ends of the originals once cut away. Although a slow operation it is going well, so far. Once all installed I'll have to repaint, especially the brass components which have mostly lost their paint with all of the handling.

I also have completed the flat clear coats on the various components in preparation for shading and weathering. The Vallejo Polyurethane Matt Varnish is an excellent product; I was able to do 2 light coats in the same session, no staining or "clouding" whatsoever.

Again, Thanks for looking in and for the encouragement. :)
Cheers,
Lance

Excellent update Lance!  The Vallejo varnish worked a treat, didn't it?  Your painstaking
work replacing the push rods will pay off dividends...terrific work.  I didn't think much
of the Schuckert to tell the truth, but in watching your magic, I am warming to it. :o
Really fine work, my friend. :D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thank you both, George and Ernie. I got in a really good bench session this morning :) and the push rod/crankcase assembly is done, presently the touch up paint is drying. I hope to get a photo or two posted later today.
Cheers,
Lance

Your patience is paying off there Lance - those push rods look far better  :)

The whole project is coming on so well - I'm really looking forwards to seeing this in 'all it's glory'.

Inspirational work Lance, thank you for posting. Can't wait to see it finished.
Do you mind me asking what you thinned the Vallejo Polyurethane Varnish with?
Thanks, Sandy

Tug, Martin, Thanks so much for the encouraging comments, means a lot!

Sandy,
Thank you as well. The longer part of the answer.......... I have struggled with Gloss and Matt or Satin clear overcoats for years and finally found these (New) products through one of our members, Chris Johnson. They are OUTSTANDING products, and I'm sold on them. Polyurethane Varnish in Gloss(#26.650), Satin (#26.652) and Matt(#26.651) The short answer, the thinner used with them is Vallejo "Airbrush Thinner" #71.161. They work well over enamels, acrylics, lacquers, and even Future applied as a gloss before decaling. I use a 40/60 ratio of thinner to varnish respectively and the normal 20-23 psi pressure on the airbrush. Drying on the matt is almost immediate and I can apply a second coat within 10 minutes if keeping the coats light.
Cheers,
Lance

Your finish looks superb Lance. Thanks to you, and indirectly Chris for the info on the Valejo clear coats. I will need to pick some up!

Thank you Rick, and yes, I highly recommend the stuff.
Here's the quick photos of the completed engines with the Kit version's pushrods replaced. The Aviattic version with the final oil residue weathering added:

The Kit supplied engine ready to install..........

.........and a comparison shot, the Kit version on the left.

The Aviattic engine definitely has better detail and will be displayed beside the aircraft in a suitable stand or carrying frame. The Kit engine will be installed in the aircraft and thus mostly hidden.
Now it's back to shading and weathering of the aircraft.
Cheers,
Lance

That's amazing, Lance! Changing just the pushrods has brought the kit engine up to almost the same level as the Aviattic. In fact, with the engine installed in the cowling, you probably wouldn't notice the difference (but don't tell Richard that" ;) :D )  Of course, your beautiful paint job goes a long way to enhance the look also.

I will have to chase down the clear coats you speak of Lance, they give a superb result.

Excellent work on the kit engine push rods, the new ones certainly make the engine look more to scale, well worth the effort. The comparison shot shows very little difference between the two engine but the Aviattic example is a bit sharper in detail.

Both engines do you proud Lance - nice work indeed  :).

I can concur on your findings with the Vallejo varnish though for myself only on the Semi Matt. It sprays so easily and gives a beautiful finish that dries very quickly.

Keep it coming  ;)
