Fokker E.I to E.IV turnbuckles

Hi everyone,

  I was going to make a Gaspatch Turnbuckle purchase and I was wondering how many turnbuckles the Fokker E would need. Has anyone who built it counted them up yet?

When I built my Fokker E.III I used 26 turnbuckles, it may not be the correct amount but I placed them where I thought they needed to be.

Mark, there has been some talk here on the forum that the 1:48 scale buckles look better on a 1:32 scale model, I don't know what scale you are going to be working in but it could be worth some thought. As you know, I make all my own turnbuckles so and have never used the Gaspatch product but images of models posted here with the Gaspatch turnbuckles in use look extremely good.

Thanks guys,  I was going to use 1/48 scale but I wasn't sure if I needed 1 or 2 packs.

I tend to use both the 1/32 and 1/48, the smaller on control
wires, undercarriage and the such with usually 1/32 on the higher stress
main riggings.

I read that there is lot to do about colour coded buckles on the Fokker eindeckers. As I am planning to do one or more myself can somebody shed some light on this subject?
Was this done on every type, what were the colours and what (and how) was was painted to start the questions..

Consequently, the turnbuckles were color-coded and instructions to this effect were stenciled on the wingtips for the mechanic’s edification – starboard red, port green, and the pylon turnbuckles were painted blue.

Yep, that's my review of my Eindecker build. Josef Scott's excellent Eindecker Compendia, two volumes, is the definitive work on this aircraft. Hope you enjoy my write up and the information on the turnbuckle colors are helpful.

It all depends on how crazy you want to get -

I used a combination of 1:32 and 1:48 Turnbuckles and anchors as I replicated all the mounts on the landing struts and also replaced the turnbuckles on the Carbane strut, control points etc.

Radu Brinzan makes some nice small PE turnbuckles, which fold up for a 3d effect. 80 or so to a fret, and with anchor points. I used some in my (stalled) DVII cockpit. I've used the Gaspatch anchor points for rigging, and they are effective.
