Oh, my, Rowan! Those are some lovely schemes. They'd be a nice addition to the set.
Regarding the DH9, I haven't started mine, but I've played around with it a bit and as far as I can see, it's no worse than Roden's other two seaters. I've built the Puma engined DH4 and the BE2c and they were a challenge, but ultimately fun. Hopefully others will chime in and sway you.
Cheers,
Bud
I just don't know how strong the 48th scale market is nowadays, Bud. I would like to think that there were still enough people interested to make a DH9 set worth printing, but having to do the cockades will take up sheet space, and add to the cost. I've been pleasantly surprised by the orders coming in for the 32nd scale DH9 set, so perhaps I can float the idea of a 48th scale set at the same time as I canvass for interest in the Hanriots.
Well put in for a preorder. Could you tell me what the DH.9 number 9 is? It has me really interested. Will have to get a couple more of these kits I guess.
James
Hello James,
Thanks for the order. Number nine is one of a pair of DH9s bought by an Indian potentate (sadly I don't have any better identity) in 1919 and subsequently purchased by a wheeler dealer called Captain Murphy, who intended them as part of a package deal with some Avro 504Ks to be negotiated with the Afghan authorities. It seems that negotiations were protracted and the aircraft remained at Peshawar in India while the discussions continued, allegedly for more than a year. It seems that opinion is divided as to whether they ever reached Kabul;......... some say, that they were destroyed in the monsoon storms at Peshawar, others that they did make it to Kabul, but languished there, unused until they eventually disappeared. Whatever the truth of their eventual fate, the Afghan markings (carried only on the rudder and fuselage) and silver/red finish make for a most attractive subject. I'm really looking forward to seeing this appear in model form!
You do those Hanriot's in 1/72nd and I'll have to order some HR Models kits.
Warren
Hi Warren, I have the HR kit and very nice it is too - but the price!! I paid £19.99 for mine and they want a further £3.60 for the miniscule etched parts set - I don't see them selling many at that price as most of you 72nd folks are - how can I put it.....
careful with your money! and the Eduard 1/48th kit is available in Weekend guise for £10.99 (all prices from Hannant's website). But asking the question won't cost anything, so I will see what can be done.
