Any good profiles of Rickenbecker's Spad XIII somewhere?
« on: March 11, 2015, 11:27:39 PM »
Hi y'all.
I probably won't be doing Roque's Spad XIII after all, but rather Rickenbecker's.
Lots of different profiles on the web...
Any one I can rely on?
Ciao

Hi Iwik,
Better than a profile, the replica at the US Air Force Museum is about 99% authentic according to Alan Toelle, unfortunately he says that for some reason they painted the undersides gray instead of Ecru as he had told them to.  But the markings are authentic as well as the 5 color aluminized paint colors. Here is a link to some photos of it, there are many other photos on the net.

Hi!
Thanks Dave.
Yes, there does seem to be a controversy concerning USAS underbelly color. Grey blue or Ecru? Why would Alan Toelle say it's Ecru and the guys did paint the aircraft differently???

Not sure, but here is a little more on this SPAD (and several others studied by Alan Toelle) This was posted by Stephen Lawson on Aeroscale.
