Thank you friends, yesterday I glued the cockpit cage to one fuselage half, now I'm ready to close it.

The cables of the rudder pedals appear un-glued from this photo...
Oh sh** I didn't realize it...
I will make a try to re-stretch them...

Ciao

That is stunning work remaking the cockpit framing
Antonio.  Even more considering the scale.  The
Spandau's are little works of art.  Quite a project
and you are doing a great job, my friend. :D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks Ernie,
yes the Spandaus are a masterpiece, these Mini World stuff are really a crack!

I lost to the floor (I have no carpet!) monster one of the front pieces with the gunsight the refore I avoided to put the other one...

Hallo,
here are some news from the Fokker factory:

here you can see the brass piece provided by the PE fret simulating the metal panel closing the forward part of the fuselage with the undercarriage struts.
The plate itself is not bad so I decided to keep it, but the struts where flat and I did not like them, so I decided to make them from scratch using a 1 mm diameter plastic rod that I flattened on two opposite "faces" to get the aerodynamic section.
I pierced the rods to insert a pin made from an electric wire.

then I cut away the flat-struts and glued the plate under the fuselage.
You can see here the holes for the tail handles  and the set up to the cockpit pierced and marked with a black felt to see them after priming the fuselage.
I also carved and blacked the square pit under the control column (I suppose...)

The joining line was sanded even enough but not filled with putty, I would like to let it peep from under the lozenges, I will mark it with the felt after priming and study a way to draw the stitching line thet used to close the lozenged canvas according to some pictures I saw...
Any Ideas about how to make it?

other details added to the top side of the cowling and to the firewall to be painted metal.

Here I glued the bottom part of theundercarriage struts in their final position, the fuselage was used to give the struts the correct position, not yet glued.
The whole carriage sub assembly has been now painted green with satin finish.

Then I cut a plastic hollow tube used to bind plants to support sticks with a razor blade to simulate the leather trimming inside the cockpit hole.

That's all for now, now I will create the struts sustaining the wing using the same technique used for the undercarriage, then will proceed to prime the fuselage and go with the lozenges.

Ciaoooo!

Antonio

Outstanding work all around, Andonio!  I like the color coding on the struts, but isn't starboard green and port red? ;)
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks Bud, yes you're right, I did not take into account thet the bottom plate had to be turned upside down when going under the fuselage!
I spotted the error immediately and kept it until fixing the struts!
Thanks for reminding me that!!!

Here are the ammunition sliders I built from aluminum bands cut from an empty toothpaste tube...

I will glue the ammo belts (provided by the miniworld MG kits) on them.
Now I am building the V shaped wing struts...

This is a real treat to follow, I had to double-check the thread title because I thought this was 1/48. Great work on the various modifications and enhancements!

Beautiful work so far Antonio, she's coming on very nicely. I'm also a big fan of the Mini world guns, especially the twin Lewis and Scarff rings.

Thank you Ian!

Just had a couple of hours yesterday and finished the 2 reversed V struts holding the parasol wing.
I used the PE piece as a model for the length and angle

now I will try them in position (orange trace in the following picture) laying the wing over to check their position and to prepare the other two struts (green and blue).

I also tried to decide the size of the stencils on both the sides of the fuselage.
I pasted over the photo of my fuselage the stencils I made with my Inkscape vector program...

Here you can see the position of the crosses and of the white band, gentlemen I ask for your advice, because I did not find any picture of the 153/18 with clear indications of the starboard stencil position.

I saw somewhere that on the port side the s/n was hidden by the white vertical band (as I show in the lower picture) if I position the starboard stencil in a symmetrical way, that's to say aligning its  8 with the F of the port stencil it should appear like in the upper picture.

According to your opinion, does this appear a good reasoning and the position of the stencils can be acceptable?

Thanks for sharing your points of view!

Antonio

Thanks Richard,
I agree about the proportions, will shrink both a bit.
I was wondering about the position and then to understand which portion on each side would appear hidden by the vertical white band.
