Fantastic and inspirational work, Dan- we don't see a lot of modelers converting Great War kits into prototypes and you've done a splendid job on this one. The CDL & wooden fuselage combination looks magnificent. I wonder whether the design staff ever thought the war might end before the type could prove its mettle or had any inkling of the air fighting legacy it would do so much to create.

Hello Dan:

For the simplicity of the scheme, it is an extremely striking scheme.  You really captured the wood tone of the natural wood and the CDL is a nice contrast.  An outstanding buid to be sure.  Looking forward to seeing you wrap it up.

Best

Dan,
Truly excellent work, and a very unique and attractive Model. I like Mark's comments, simple but very catching scheme! You can be very proud of this one, exceptional talent on display! 8)

Superb conversion work on your DI, Dan.

I think you have hit the right wood tone on the fuselage too.  Good luck with your exhaust.

Finally got a chance to work on the exhaust.  So close now. Just some final fittings.

The stack isn't perfect, but it's as close as I can get it based on only a couple of photos of the prototype.  Sure looks cool.  It started out as a thick piece of sprue which was heated and bent to the basic shape.  I then spent about 20 minutes with a Dremel tool sanding it to basic shape and thinning things.  I added the individual pipes from thin gauge solder which was nice and bendy.  Then it was spot primed and putty was used for smoothing things out.  Finally, the top was drilled out as much as I dared.  Not as well done as an LVG (I think) I saw here recently, but it looks ok to me.  I painted it aluminum and just added a little chalk dust on the top since I figure this thing was hardly used.

Next post will be done...

Cheers,

Dan

Dan,
For some reason I thought you had finished this one a while back. So after going back and looking at the updates I missed I can add another OUTSTANDING and BEAUTIFUL work to the collection of accolades!
