Academy 1:32 Sopwith Camel F.1
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:15:24 AM »
Thought I would re-hash this model here on my new forum. There has been a lot said about the Academy Camel but I found it to be an alright kit, yes, it needed work as do most kits, but it built up to be a very respectable looking model. A full build log of this kit can be found on my website where I go into detailed descriptions on how I built the model. http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page32.html

The last photo show the engine detail with the prop off.

Des.

Des, it built up into a hell of a lot more than a "respectable" model.  This is a masterpiece.  She's truly brilliant, mate.
Cheers,
Bud

 Des,
She's still the best 1/32 scale Camel I've seen. Truly a Masterpiece I never get tired of seeing.

She's simply beautiful Des and you've inspired me to shamelessly copy the marking scheme when I get around to building the kit as I like a Canadian connection to my models whenever possible. Now if I could just round up a set of those decals ...

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Des,

Lovely work, it's far too easy to forget in the modern WNW world that some of these old kits can be made  top notch with just a little extra..... well lots of extra TLC too.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments.

I wanted to show this model again hoping that all those who have this kit in their stash will dig it out and give it a go, it requires a little bit of extra work but all in all it is a pretty good kit.

Here is the engine (two spark plugs per cylinder) and the scratch built instrument panel, a little bit of additional detailing turns this rather basic kit into an exceptional model on par with the best of them.

Des.

Des, always a joy to see your work and get the boost to ones inspiration that it brings. What is it about those marvelous engines that gets into ones blood? Your wood graining on the instrument panel sets off the business end. Are the bezels and instrument faces from the sources displayed on your website front page?

All lovely stuff. Many "thumbs up".  :)

Des,
A "little bit of extra work" as you stated but definitely done by an extremely talented Modeler. Magnificent engine, and the Instrument Panel is beyond description, Your work is truly top of the talent scale and I'll be checking this one out on your Website, suspect I might even learn something!
Cheers,
Lance
