Sopwith Triplane Replica - Calgary Aero Space Museum
« on: April 25, 2014, 12:03:36 PM »
I had about 15 minutes to spare before a recent flight home from YYC. What's a guy to do? Head to the local Aero Space Museum and marvel at their lovely Triplane replica, of course! I only came armed with an iPhone, so excuse the quality, but I hope they give you enough detail to go on.

Sopwith Triplane, replicated from original blueprints, dressed in the scheme of local flyer A.W. Carter:

Head on:

Rear 3/4:

Port 1/2:

Front 3/4:

Details

Flat flying wires:

Flying wires and landing wires passing through middle wing:

Pitot on port side, middle wing (anachronistic?):

Starboard strut:

Starboard ammo chute, flying wires, and a clear window:

Teeth and air speed:

Cowling cable:

Pulley inspection port:

Starboard wheel:

U/C rigging:

Bungees:

Tail skid:

U/C rigging detail:

The heart (it's a working engine and a flyable replica):

Engine wiring:

Close-up of engine data plate:

And to end off, here's the other gem in the collection:

I hope these help.

Lindsay

Excellent photos, Lindsay!  Thank you for posting them.  This looks to be a very accurate repro and points out a number of details I might have missed in building my Tripes.  These pics will definitely be useful to me in my build.
Cheers,
Bud

Nice shots Lindsay. I've seen it several times over the years and always regretted not taking pictures; it's a beautiful repro and being in "Nick" Carter's colours is a bonus. Thanks for posting. 8)
Cheers,
Lance
