Hi to all from North Carolina USA
« on: March 30, 2014, 06:21:13 AM »
First let me say that I am very happy to have found this site.  I look forward to sharing what I know about these heroic early years of aviation.
This all started for me when I was given a copy of Joseph Phelan's "Heroes & Aeroplanes of the Great War 1914-1918" when I was a kid and the deal was sealed when my parents took me to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome in upstate New York.   I have been building models off and on since I was a kid but have never finished an aircraft kit from WW 1.  I hope I can change that soon with the help of this website and it's members.
Best regards,
Steve

Welcome aboard, Steve.

That book was my favorite too when I was a kid and I still cherish my tattered, spineless copy.

Welcome to the forum, Steve!  Great to have you aboard.  Old Rhinebeck is what hooked me originally, too.
Cheers,
Bud

Welcome Steve, I'm glad you found us!  Wow--you're childhood experiences mirror my own.  The outstanding Phelan book and my parents nourishing my interest with a visit to Rhinebeck in the late 60s. ;D.  Add in seeing "The Blue Max" at the local movie theater--only one screen--and Gene Gurney's "Flying Aces of WWI," and I was set! ;)

My son graduated from Wake Forest last year, so I've been making the trek from PA to NC for several years. Always enjoyed my visits.  Glad to have you aboard!

Regards,

Bob

North Carolina is a terrific place.  I live just a hop, skip and a jump south of Raleigh.  Wake Forest is not far at all. The beautiful mountains, great coastline and the beaches are tough to beat.

You are right! I guess I am about 4 or 5 hours away from you. I live in Fleetwood, Just about midway between Boone and West Jefferson.
