Very, very fine model unveiling! I like the woodpaint especially.
Could you give some details, how have you shaded the wings along the ribs? W&W decal instruction suggests shading of the undersurface before decalling. Have you followed this hint?

I've shaded the wing after decalling with oil paint (you can see an image in the first post)

I've done some tests with preshading, but is difficult to choose the right amount. The W&W are very transparent , so it's easy to overdo it or keep it too subtle. With the decals remaining after the build I'll do some more tests to have a reference for the next time.

An example with a test

In real life is just visible, tomorrow I'll post another test where the shading is too much visible

Many thanks, Andrew. I am planning to build a Roland with W&W lozenge later this year and try to gather people's experience on shading.

You have done a superb job with the planking Andrew, and the lozenge looks very good as well.

I am completely in awe of the way you have done the planking, Andrea.  Could
you tell me what paints you used for the base and highlighted darker areas? The
wash you mentioned...was it with oils? You are building a stunning model and with
the paint scheme you have chosen I have no doubts that it will be a real show-stopper.
Forgive all the questions but I have no experience painting a wooden fuselage and could
really use a few tips. :-[ :D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

thanks!

For the planks I have used a pale yellow lifecolor for the base (don't remeber the exact name, I'll check it).
Then I have painted some color changes and the planks joints with a dark brown (always lifecolor) quite diluited.
At this point there was too much contrast so I oversprayed a light coat of the base color to blend all.
At this point I have made a light wash with oil color (you can use the washing technique you prefer...)

Then I've added some more details with dark brown. The last step will be to add a final layer with oils applied with a sponge like I've done on the interiors.

you can see some details of the real aircraft

I hope is all clear, if you want to know something else just ask  ;)

Andrew,
Your woodwork is magnificent as is the rest of the model. I have this one in my stash and will certainly be checking back to this Thread when I build it.
I choose the Wood and Wire lozenge with a white base to hopefully make the shading (post-shading in this case) simpler. Your pre-shading looks to be working very well, I hope I haven't made the wrong choice.
I am enjoying following your progress on this Build, nice work!
Cheers,
Lance

On the models I've used a cdl color as a base for the lozenge...I think that  white is too strong, but it's up to you, you can make some test with a small piece of decal.

Hi!

Not much work even this week but something is going on.

First I've added the seatbelts. I've annealed them over a flame, draped over the seat, painted and added some shadows with oils.

I've also glued the enigne inside the fuselage and added some wires. i didn' go mad here because will be almost invisible at the end with the fuselage closed

I've assembled the MGs

I've started to prepare the turnbuckles for the rigging.
The Gaspatch metal turnbuckles are wonderful!!!

I've added an eyelet to each to fix them to the wing. gaspatch made also a version with an integral eyelet, but they are rigid, so you must glue them already with the right angle. With my system I have some more freedom.

In the second pic you can see also some  eyelets and the "tool" I use to make them.
Is a simple pin ( you can easily make a tool like this if you want or you can buy allready made eyelets from bob's buckles  ;D ).
With this tool is very easy to make eyelets, just wrap some wire around the pin and twist it.   ;)

Oh man Andrew, it gets better as you go along!  The seatbelts look really
good...not an easy thing with the PE belts.  You nailed it.  I am quite taken
with the seat. Could you tell me how you did the wear on it?  Amazing
talents shown, my friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks!

The seat is done like all other wood parts, I 've posted some details in the first page of this thread... anyway is acrylic sand color base and oil color over it

I've used this technique http://wingnutwings.com/ww/vC8C3C405/www/hintsandtips/32002%201-32%20LVG%20C.VI%20painting%20wood%20grain%20hints%20and%20tips.jpg  using various colors and painting a little bit of grain with acylics over the base color.

If you want to know more just ask!  ;D
