Combat scenes from WW1
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:59:55 AM »
These photos were sent to me by Gunther, his text is as follows;

Paintings showing von Hindenburg and von Ludendorff, combat scenes and the Pour le Merite awarded tp fighter pilot Knight of Schleich/Ritter von Schleich.

I did a little photo editing on this last photo, the original image Gunther sent me was very dark as you can see in the previous picture, the editing has brightened the image but I don't know if it is now true to colour.

The  aviation images were painted by none other than pilot Rudolph Stark. I have always found this one particularly compelling. A scene as painted by someone who experienced it.

Any idea when he painted them?

Messieurs !

Unforunately I can't give you further info on those paintings yet; they are part of the WW I exhibition at he Bavarian Army Museum
at Ingolstadt.

I'll try to find out more.

I do not believe that General Ludendorff was ever awarded the honorific "von." Good pictures, though!
Cheers!

I like those a lot, very atmospheric and evocative.

Is it possible to buy prints of these so one could frame and hang them. I particularly like the 2nd and 4th ones.

Errors !

Yep, of course I promoted Ludendorff...

The Picture must be Ritter Eduard von Schleich or  Tutscheck...
