Thanks John for your comments. I was considering using oils but I went for Gunze acrylics with retarder added, this allowed me plenty of time to do any corrections. I looked at the Michigan toy Soldier you tube video, very informative.

just in case anyone is interested, these are the colours and paints I used.

I started off by applying a base coat of Gunze H313 Yellow FS33531 (air brushed)
Skin is Gunze 44 Flesh
Eye whites Gunze 21 Off White
Pupils Humbrol  109 WW1 Blue
Sidcot suit Humbrol 93 Dessert Yellow
Boots, gloves, helmet Gunze 406 Chocolate brown with white added
Goggle leather Humbrol 62 Leather
Goggle frames and buckles Mr Metal Color Stainless
Boot and jacket fur Gunze 21 Off White
Buttons Gunze 72 Dark Earth

Light skin shading - Gunze flesh with white added
Dark skin shading Gunze Flesh with Dark Earth added.
Lips Gunze 43 Wine Red with white added
Moustache and eye brows Gunze 72 Dark Earth

Well . . . I wish I could say that I'd painted it. I think you're on the right track Des and well ahead of me on the learning curve. Well done!

Cheers,

Chris

Were you able to find a good tutorial to work off of? Figures are intimidating, but a good reference makes things a little less so.
