Very nice weathering, and the MRP-333 upper surfaces are most attractive. Excellent choice I think.

Just catching up with your build here Mike - excellent research & progress. It'll be great to see your overall assessment of the kit at the end of it all.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi all,
Just a few updates.
The completed engine has been fitted with the top cover panel.
I added ignition leads from 0.3 mm lead wire (PlusModel).
Also, the support strut for the top cover panel, located between the engine crankcase and underside of the panel.
Of course the leads and strut can't easily be seen.
The propeller is not from the kit as that propeller is not well produced.
I've used the propeller from the Lukgraph BE2c model I made as I used a proper Plane propeller on that model.
The BE2c and FK.3 used the same engine and propeller.
The propeller is painted and just needs the manufacturers logos adding to the blades.
Most photographs of this aircraft show that the propeller was made by F. Tibbenham Ltd of Ipswich.
Their logo is shown below.
Fortunately, the decal set from LF Models (British WW1 propeller labels - part III - 3208) has the logo.
Once they arrive I'll add them to the propeller blades.

Now it's onto the pre-rigging stage,

Mike

Hi all,
The vac-formed windscreen has been fitted.
Also, the underside of the upper wing pre-rigged.

Now onto the rest of the pre-rigging,

Mike

Hi all,
The rudder, elevators and fin bracing has all been rigged.
Gaspatch Type A and C turnbuckles with 0.08 and 0.12 mm mono-filament and 0.4 and 0.5 blacked tubes.
The tail skid and landing gear have also been fitted.

Next is to fit the upper wing,

Mike

Superb work all round Mike. I really like the finish you got on the propellor, very nice. It seems like this is going together without any major challenges.

Hi all,
All rigging now completed.
The shots below show the rigging during fitting.

Twin and single flying wires.
Single landing wires.
Interplane incidence wires.
Drag wires.
Anti-drag wires.
Cabane strut bracing wires.
Landing gear bracing wires.
Aileron control cables (upper and lower wings).
Fin bracing wires.
Twin rudder control cables.
Elevator control cables.

Left to fit are the engine exhaust pipes, landing gear wheels, propeller and wing hoops.
Two more modifications to add that the kit does not supply are the pitot-static pipes and fuel tank filler cap.
Then it's just the display case and of course figures,

It looks fantastic?great work on the tensioning.
It looks just great even under macro.

How would you rate the kit in general in terms of fit and accuracy, Mike?

Hi Bertl,
Like the Roland D.II the kit is well produced.
It's boxed as an operational aircraft of No.47 Squadron (RFC), the only squadron to fly operationally.
Mostly this aircraft was used as a trainer, hence my changes to the model.
The general fit of parts is good and the surfaces in the main do not have 3D print layer lines.

The only problem areas are:
The reinforcing rods through the wings pass under the locating recesses for the interplane struts.
So you need to shorten the strut ends to fit.
When the ailerons are fitted, their control horns are directly in-line with the interplane struts.
So if you correctly rig the aircraft, the struts get in the way, so I re-positioned the control horns slightly.
The only surface layer lines that needed sanding were on the fin and slightly on the fuselage sides.
The rib tapes on the underside of the upper wing and ailerons are too thick, especially the shorter, intermediate rib tapes at the leading edge.
They were sanded down to reduce their thickness.

Overall the kit is good and well worth building,

Mike

I get anxious just looking at all the superb rigging that's been done on this kit.  Way beyond any capabilities I dream of having.
