Lucky Pierre finally found !!.....
« on: January 08, 2026, 07:50:21 AM »
I'm sure many of you have these passive searches as I do. Something we want but not enough to put any real effort or dollars into.
Over the past couple of years, I've been patiently waiting and looking for certain kits I would love to have. It is how my Hippo Gotha G.V came to me. Every once in while poking around the www.
I also found a new, still factory sealed Blue Max Vickers Gunbus. None of these did I pay stupid money for.

In the stash I have these Revell kits, only the Spitfire is built.

Passive searching over the years finally found "Lucky Pierre". Very rare. I paid the princely sum of $14.00 for him.

As you can imagine, for that price it is not new in box. In fact I can safely say it is the roughest used kit I have ever found. It will be a challenge to clean up and rebuild.

Pretty nasty....It's now sitting in a bath of Easy-Off oven cleaner.

I know I'll be cutting masks for the markings. I'm torn between finishing it in the old school tan or the more correct silver. The plastic is molded as gold.

Of course I now have a 3D printed engine and cockpit interior from "Copper State" on the way.......
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

I had no idea the McLaren and Nieuport existed, how cool! I'm sorry to see the condition the kit arrived in but I'm hopeful you'll be able to reclaim and rejuvenate it!

Oh lucky you!  I?ve been looking for that kit since I built my Funfdecker.  Rough shape for sure but the easy off will work wonders.
There?s a couple of these on EBay listed for $150 -$200. I?m not that motivated to buy at those prices!

Looking forward to your build.

Wow...I kinda forgot about Lucky Pierre sitting a bath "Easy-Off" for a couple of days but I'm glad I did.

I'm amazed how well this cleaned up, probably as a direct result of it sitting longer than I usually let it sit. Seems like an entire tube of Testers glue was used but all softened up nicely with only a couple of blobs that will need chiseling off.
I'm still undecided about the finished color, tan or silver but I'm leaning towards the more authentic silver.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Lucky Pierre went under the Easy-Off and was out drying. Su saw it and remembered I had built Rif-Raf for her and she had it hanging up in her office before she retired.
She asked for me to hang it up again in our office. It had some slight battle damage since the end of hostilities that were repaired with some quick touch-ups of paint and a fresh coat of Future.

Done. While rumaging about, I remembered and found the Messa-schnitzel I had started for her.

Found in box all together, decals missing, now in the paint booth.

I will finish it in the early RLM colors of 65/70/02 as in the movie.

A fun break from WW1 rigging. It may be a while before I return to that as while digging, I found a bunch of race car kits.
