Josef Jacobs Fokker Dr1. Eduard 1/72
« on: December 28, 2025, 12:28:32 AM »
Hi all - just completed the Eduard profipack triplane as the famous Josef Jacobs plane with the "devil spitting fire" or "god of the north wind" depending on what source you read painted on the sides.  Pretty sure that the decal on the left hand side is too big!  But I didn't have any pictures of that side to reference  - could only find the right - and then only partial.
The Eduard kit goes together really well and the PE parts make a difference - although they are mostly in the cockpit where you can't really see them.  Added a hint of blue to the Tamiya matt black paint I sprayed it with, then satin varnished (gloss for the metal parts).  Built out of the box.
Builds up just as well as the Revell kit - although it's easy to paint as anything other than the red baron's plane because the plastic is grey not bright red!

Nicely done. Thanks for posting about the decal.  I have yet to build this. Maybe someday.

Nice one Will.  :)
Built a few of these and the only criticism I have  of the Eduard kit is they are lacking the hatch under the nose (but that's easy to add if you can be bothered) As you say the plastic colour makes it easier to choose a different scheme than the red one and I like your choice of JJ's mount.

I must say I prefer Jacob's scheme to Richthofen's.

Lovely work as always Tim - I also have always liked this scheme, you have executed it well.  Did you modify the Eduard undercarriage in any way? I have seen pictures of this kit built up where the undercarriage looks spindly and not quite correct - your model doesn't seem to exhibit this feature of the Eduard kit.

Cheers,

No Brad, everything is exactly as it was in the kit.  I didn?t modify anything.  A deliberate choice after the last two that needed more work!  Thanks all for the kind comments - Happy New Year when it comes!

Masterful work Will. I've always been smitten by Jacobs' tripe. This might be my inspiration to do one.

Great looking Dr.1... I like this scheme and black is sometimes a hard color to get to look right in this scale but yours looks great... perhaps the small amount of blue you added?  The PE does improve the overall finish, detail items that I would be trying to add (with varying degrees of success) from stretched sprue... I'm assuming that Jacobs aircraft only had the one gun sight?
I do like the Eduard kit, I've got the new moulding of the Revell and as mentioned, while being molded in red plastic I also think the wing ribs look a little over done???  But, I've not built it yet so those are just impressions.

Take care
Scott

Nice!  I?ve wanted to build this one for years. You motivate me to get the Eduard kit and start.
