Pegasus 1/72 FK8
« on: February 09, 2025, 10:23:49 PM »
Hooray finished it at last. Just back from it's first time at a show yesterday I thought i'd better add a few pictures and say thanks for the encouragement during the build  :)

Nice accurate kit although I spent a lot of time adding new details and scratchbuilding as usual (at least you can actually see the front cockpit and instrument panel on this one unlike some I've done. Rigging is all in 1lb monofilament and struts are sanded brass rod. All painted in acrylic with oil paints used for weathering.

And for those that don't know the original kit here's a peek of what we started with. I discarded all the metal pieces and replaced the details on the plastic bits. Wanting something a bit different I also chose to make one of the versions which had it's undercarriage modified from the original rather ungainly style

A great build of an under-appreciated airplane!  I really like the slushy ground effects too.

Thanks matey

the original plan was to have a snow covered ground, but I decide at the last minute that it would look too stark so made up teh ground as usual and then built up the snow effects slowly over 3 sessions till I got where I wanted to be. Now need to sort out a couple of suitably garbed crewmen for it  ;)

I'll admit I didn't know much about the FK8 until I started this model, but as you say it's a much underappreciated design that may not have the glamour of the brightly coloured scouts, but was a solid machine that performed much better than many others and gave it's crews a solid platform that could be depended upon.

Stunning results! I enjoyed following along on your build. The groundwork/ presentation is the Icing on the Cake!

Such a nice looking model, Paul. The time you spent on the groundwork also was well spent - it looks excellent.
Cheers,
Gary

Thanks Gary.
Took a bit of experimenting to get what I was after with the groundwork, but pleased with the effect overall :)

Amazing model in this scale.

Appreciate that Prze  :)

That looks really nice!  A difficult build too.  I am afraid to try those Pegasus kits as they appear very challenging.

This turned out really well, the attention to detail is superb. I really like the front end, radiators and fuel tank with the piping and breather. Superb in this scale. It looks fantastic on that base, which is also beautifully done. Great job on some teeny-tiny bits of plastic......

Thanks RVW  :)

Don't be put off having a go at one. They make some really good subjects and are generally accurate in outlines so it's just a question of adding a lit of 'love' to them. They stand up really well against the more modern kits I've built in this scale when completed and the pleasure from adding your own stamp on a model rather than assembling a kit of parts is why I keep returning to them

Paul -

Wonderful work on this one - especially as these kits are pretty crude from the box so highlights your good modelling skills.

Very nicely done!
I built mine quite a few years ago and commissioned some PE for the A-W name plates, Rotherham pump mount, and control actuators. Colin at Freightdog bought sets to add to his remaining kits but I have no idea if there are any left.
