Watched this new movie last night and thought it very well filmed, acted and informative.
The setting is Latvia at the beginning of WWI with two brothers and their father joining up to defend their country and the Russian Empire against the invading Boche.
I read Solzhenitsyn's August 1914 many years ago, but otherwise had little knowledge of this general area and found the movie engrossing. The terrors of charging machine guns in mud and snow, dodging snipers in long grass is well portrayed and the characters are fully developed living breathing soldiers that you empathize with completely. Of course it develops into the chaos of the Revolution and the mad reign of the soviet political officers.
Well worth a watch.
