Finally found a Hanriot HD.1 kit!
« on: December 31, 2022, 08:40:34 AM »
The 1/72 HR kits of the Hanriot HD.1  have been OOP for 10 years now, and would typically go for $40 - $50 or more on auction sites.
I stumbled across one up for auction on ebay, ending mid-afternoon on Christmas eve.   I took a shot and landed it for $16!

Yes, it is the Swiss version, but I’ve got plenty of decals in the stash.   I’ll have to decide whether to use Italian or Belgian decals on it—  I’m sorta leaning towards one of the blue Belgian planes…..

It came today, along with two other kits I also ordered.  Going to be a “Happy WW1 in 1/72 New Year!”

Congrats! I know how satisfying such a score can be.

My advice for colour scheme is limited to bias toward the airworthy original example that lives 2.5hr away from me...

Lucky fella  ;D

Great scheme too. I seem to remember reading about an incident involving hiitting/landing on a balloon he was attempting to shoot down where he stopped the engine, slid over the edge of the balloon and restarted when he was clear (I'll need to check the reference . . . )

Anyway great haul Bill. Hanriot is one you don't see that often which is a shame coz it's such a well proportioned machine  8)

Cool score Bill!  That IS a hard decision as both the Belgian and Italian schemes are so great.

Paul, Willy Coppens mentions that incident in his autobiography "Days on the Wing". He also designed the thistle squadron emblem.
 Well worth a read.
