Eduard Dr1, VOSS triplane, 103/17...Streaking MkII...FINI...
« on: February 06, 2023, 05:46:52 AM »
My third effort to get this Fokker streaking down and I think I got this. The exercise was to try and duplicate the Fokker effect without resorting to aftermarket decals. I wanted to be able use what we have available sitting on our work stations.

Build log here:   https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13610.0

Voss' 103 is well documented so I thought it would be a good test.

Close enough. In hindsight, I planned on weathering back the fresh looking crosses but forgot until after the shoot. There is a lot that Eduard missed that I  did not bother to fix, the cowl, the counter balance on the ailerons, something else I've forgotten. This was a test for streaking, not a perfectly accurate rendition of FI 103/17.

Eduard 1/48 Dr1, Voss 103/17. Bottom shot.

And the rest.

I'm pleased with this, I hope everyone can now get the streaks they want without resorting to aftermarket.

Three Tripes in a row is enough for me for now. Sadly, I have to pack up the shop and move to new digs as Su and I are building our retirement home. We'll be staying in my apartment while the construction is going on, I hope to not be too long away from the bench.

Masterful paintwork Allan!  Your technique is the best I’ve seen.
Sorry to hear you will be away from the bench for a while. But how exciting to be moving into new home!  I hope you have a nice workshop designed.   We will be eager for your return!

That is really quite Lovely! Your technique certainly has merit and prospects for further tweaking!

Hi Allan,

I REALLY like what you done on the bottom, the wheels and the scuffing around the cockpit.  Top notch!

Great test, I'd say...Dan

Beautiful looking Triplane Allan.
Very insightful re the references to the tri colour camo. Hope you get back to the bench before too long.

Beautiful work!  I must try some variation on your methods for my next Tripe build.
Glad you're getting new digs. In the meantime, do research! ;)

Alan,

That looks GREAT!

Since you are building...  then make sure the plans include a separate hobby room/wing for scale modeling =).

Superb result Allan, I've enjoyed seeing you refine your streaking method over the course of the 3 builds.

Very fine effort on the notorious streaking camo and a overall great model. Congratulations.

Thanks all.
Hope you experiment with this yourselves, it really is effective, easy and FAST once you get the hang of it.
I'm pretty sure I can just get a Glencoe 28 in before packing.....
