Albatros wing colors

<< < (2/2)

RAGIII:
Just catching up here so hope this isn't too late:
1. Early Albatros DI types probably just Dark Green and Reddish Brown'
2. Albatros DII and  Most Albatros DIII , Three colors, Dark Green, Light "Brunswick" green, and reddish brown.
3. OAW Albatros DIII: Mauve/ Lilac and Dark green.
4. According to DSA there was a period when the reddish brown was painted over using the Dark Green or Light green in a two tone pattern.
5. Lozenge on DV and DVa types supplemented by Mauve and Green during their production.

I think that on the Aerodrome Forum one can still find a good article by DSA.

RAGIII,

My thread I linked to in post #4 has a link to (and an excerpt from) a DSA post on the Aerodrome - is that the one you were thinking of? (or is there another to hunt down?)

Rick_H:
Everything I see in that Aerodrome thread seems to be a dissection of the mauve/lilac shades.  That's interesting stuff too, but I was asking about the period described by RAGIII as #2, where there are two shades of green being seen.

That seems to be a recent revelation, as there was no mention of it in my earlier reference booklets - Windsock datafile #1 Alb D III and the datafile special on Albatros fighters.  They both indicate a single shade of green, whatever it may be.
Thanks again,
Rick in Seattle
