Dorand AR.2. 1/72 Joystick vac
« on: October 06, 2022, 10:32:00 PM »
Here’s one not often seen built. This important aircraft is not well represented in the modeling industry.  Over fifteen French espadrilles were equipped with the AR.1or AR.2 variants. Designed to replace the obsolete Farman pushers, the Dorand was mainly used in reconnaissance and light bombing roles. The US used these before being re-equipped with Salmson aircraft.
This is the 1/72 Joystick vac kit. I had to scratch build the upper engine cowling to represent the AR.2 variant.

Thanks for looking in!

Yet another splendid model of an important but under-represented type. Tim, you are single-handedly filling out significant gaps in our modelling catalogue. Beautifully made model. You must have a huge display cabinet!
Sandy

PS - I think you've got the deployment details wrong though - espadrilles are shoes - unless the Aviation Militaire was suddenly very fashion conscious! :) :) :)

A completely new type to me - and I had no idea how important it was. Super model especially since it was made from a vacuform.

Nice little plane, the elevator controls seem to have been copied from the nieuport wing controls..

Although you mentioned you modified the engine cowling to a type 2. the tail decals are still type 1 data.

Doh!   I’ll have to try and find some tiny 2’s to correct it.

Thanks Sandy!  I did mean Escadrille.  I think I’ll leave it as is because I find my mistake to be funny.
My display cabinet is full.  I intend to build one against my basement wall sometime soon.   I have many more finished aircraft to post.

Very nice.  I like seeing these rarely modeled aircraft completed.  You did a great job.

That plane looks amazing. And your model captures it fantastically.
Yes, it is so true that this French type, like so many more, are heavily underrepresented in our hobby. I completely agree with you.
What a pity!

Another stunner, and yet another that I have in the stash awaiting its turn.
These posts are definitely a benchmark to aim for!

Tim,

Another kit I look at then put back in the tub of vacs.  It's very nice to see one done.  Well worth the effort.
