1/32 Fokker DVII 10th Escadrille
« on: February 28, 2023, 07:29:26 AM »
My current WIP on a WNW Fokker DVII, using customs masks, the comet is smaller than in the reference images i have and at a slightly different angle but i think it looks alright(?) or do you think i should try repainting the comet larger? what do you think? roundels and comet are painted from self made masks. Lozenge decals are Aviattic

I have already seen it elsewhere. Lovely progress, fine scheme - great to see not-German colours on D.VII. Looking forward to see it being completed.

As for your question - the choice is yours yet IMHO it depends on how much you are going to regret later that you have not corrected the comet.
From my personal experience, I know I could not stand it. So, I would repaint, especially when if I had (seemingly you have) the resources to prepare my own masks.  ;)

Looks really nice from my perspective.  I don’t have a reference picture to compare so I can’t really comment about the comet size.

heya

got some more work done on the Fokker so here is the update. I decided in the end to redo the comet and increase its size and i am much happier with how it looks now. I've also managed to get the roundels done on the upper wing though one red wing is a shade darker than the other which is annoying but i might just leave it as is? still got the lozenge to do on the tailplane and in some other places but slowly getting it done. What do you think?

The ailerons are gonna be removed and the line will be back again as part of it has vanished due to painting.

the last image shows the roundels but also shows the place where the tape from the masking stuff has pulled up some of the colour from the lozenge so im not sure what i should do with it? leave it as weathering or attempt to patch it with spare lozenge colour sections?

:'( I think you’ll have to patch it since the Loz was printed fabric and not subject to “weathering.”

Some very beautiful work! I'm glad you repainted the comet, it looks incredibly clean and won't cause offence when you look at it now. I suspect you will be unhappy if you don't patch up the lozenge.

I agree with Rob and Richie: you are doing such a good job on the rest of the model that you will be unhappy if you do not correct the wing.

Stephen.
