Thanks chaps  ;)

Bit further on as I await my gaspatch turnbuckles for the Morane Saulnier build.

Primed up, first metal coat on and I’m now doing the masks from the OMask set, these are really helpful, particularly in this scale. It just gives the smaller access hatches, which would be very fiddly to mask - the bigger panels are easily done by regular masking tape.

I did experiment first on a spare wing my Alclad shades - and I’m glad I did! They all gave a really unpleasant grainy finish. I had this the last time I used them but assumed it was atmospheric or something I was doing, but there were a couple of brand new bottles as well as my older ones and I got the same effect with low or high pressure, with a wet coat or misted on?

I switched to Mr Paints and had no such issue. If I’d gone straight on to the model itself, it would have been yet another project in the bin!

I might email Alclad with a picture.

She looks good with her metal finish . I used to use Alclad for many years then they changed their formula and has never been the say . Stayed tacky and issue when masking it . So know I use the Vallejo Metal Coat paints with no issues at all .

Your Thunderbolt looks great. The masks do look helpful for those small areas. I am glad you tested the Alclad before using it on your model as I would hate to see this Beauty binned!

Thanks Rick & Alexis!

Yep, definitely an issue with them  ::) Anyway, the Mr Paint metallics worked a treat so I guess I’m using those from now on - I haven’t tried the Vallejo metal range Alexis, I may try them though. I always felt that a truly perfect metal finish is like finding the holy grail!

Anyway, I’ve finished the panel masking. Probably a bit shiny at the moment, but I will give it a gloss - then satin finish at the end.

Thanks Alexis  :)

Jumping ahead slightly, it’s suddenly finished! Sorry, not much of a build thread, but I got carried away the last two days...

Super duper kit, my only gripe is the modules as described, it really is a very detailed 1/48th kit squeezed into a 1/72 box! I’m pretty pleased with it actually, which for me to say is unheard of! Definite cabinet material!  ;)

The OMask set was great as was the Montex set, the couple of decals supplied were particularly impressive and thin.

Although the modelling gods still had a trick to play. The very last touch was adding a PE mirror to the mirror mount - so small you could hardly see it - dabbed it with super glue, placing it with tweezers - it pings off and lands glue side down on a wing panel, requiring a repaint of that panel... you couldn’t make it up...  ::)

Anyway, here she is...

Guy--that is fantastic!  Real eye candy. ;D  Are you sure that's not a 1/32 or 1/48 kit?  Your finish is superb in all aspects, and I love the markings.  Also, misery loves company, so I'm amused to hear that I am not the only victim of the modeling gremlins!  Thanks for sharing this scaleless gem.

Best regards,

Bob

Just catching up on this Guy - it looks spectacular. Your story about that last little super-glue incident had me chuckling, since I now know I'm not the only one those things happen to  ;)

I'm still amazed at the small scale of your P-47. Really great build indeed.
Cheers,
Gary

Great looking Jug Guy, and your switch to the Mr. Paint metallic colors proved a good one. Lovely paint and marking details, and like the others I'm impressed by the overall appearance and detail in 1:72.
Cheers,
Lance
