Hindenberg Zepplin kit

<< < (2/2)

Ant:
I have managed to have a good look at the kit without opening the bag that they are stored in.....
The instructions are not very forth coming and its something that might tax the brain a tad..

Below is a video of opening the box and displaying the parts best could..

Ant:
Well what a total disappointment this kit is......
The parts are very thin and there is no rigidity in them at all.
It says on the box 8+ no way would i give this to an 8yr old in fact ive been making wooden models for over 20yrs and i wouldnt call myself experienced but its a struggle......
Im not one to get frustrated but this is trying, very trying......

I hope that their other kits are a much better build than this......

Rant over..

Ant:
The ply is a meger 2mm and very fragile to work with....

Ive managed to do 60% of the frame work so very fragile as you are going along...

I will try n do a build blog.......

Dave Brewer:
Would it be possible to use steam or hot water on cloths to help bend the ply? That's what I do on wooden boats (full size ones, not models) on stubborn components offering to break under bending stresses. You'ld have to be careful the ply didn't delaminate, depends on what sort of glue it's made with I suppose.
Cheers,
Dave.

Ant:
Well i managed to finish the Hinenberg this morning and its worked out ok once the outer ribs where attached in order...
Its one of those models where you start you just want to do a lttle bit more etc and suddenly its completed..

Definately not for an 8yr old more of a mature headed teenager..

Anyway its being hung from the spare bedroom ceiling..

Final note.
I have tried to add photos from photobucket but its not having it.......
