How many kits do you have left...still in the shrink wrap?
« on: July 20, 2020, 03:59:11 AM »
Lance made a comment on another thread that he had a kit in the stash still in it's shrink wrap. That got me thinking. I have two. One old Eduard MoS Type L and one much older Revell P-51 in 1/72. What do they have in common? Duplicates, (taken to mean an actual duplicate kit or I have built an identical kit in the past at some point).

There are two hobby niches that occasionally bump heads or at least cause heads to be scratched. Those niches being kit builders and kit collectors. It would seem the demise of WnW has brought both out of the woodwork. Never before have such buildable kits gone extinct. Usually it is a matter of time until stocks of a popular kit are sold and a reboxing is produced by the same or a different company. It has been made clear that ain't happening in the WnW case. So every one in both niches is out to grab what they can. The real question is did you leave the shrink wrap on or rip it off to fondle the plastic.

I'm proud to say that all the WnW kits in my small stash have long lost their shrink wrap. So, how many WnW kits do you have that still have their shrink wrap, baring duplicates as defined above? Just wondering?

I have about 13 WNW kits, bought direct from the warehouse in NZ, and probably 2 or 3 other sources.

None of them were ever shrink wrapped.

Kits in general these days don't tend to be shrink-wrapped, especially if they come from large Far Eastern online retailers, where I get most of my kits from.

I did just buy 2 Dragon 1/35 armor kits from a private seller on Ebay, both of which are shrink-wrapped!

I think they are the only 2 in such condition in my stash right now.

I've got about 250 kits in the stash, none shrink wrapped.  I must touch the plastic.

I guess in the case of WnW, Did you open the plastic bags inside to touch the plastic? I know I have to handle and feel the plastic or I might as well leave the shipping carton unopened.

Now I'm curious; I'll be doing a survey tonight. I do know that one retailer I bought a few WNW Kits from sent them shrink wrapped, probably having done the wrapping before they were displayed in his store. I suspect the reason my E.1 is so packaged is I bought it to complete the set of 4 E Series I have, and yes, I buy them to build! Normally I have to handle and closely examine the sprues as well, and if bagged they mostly get opened.

I left them all shrink wrapped, with the exception of those bought already started and of one Fokker E.1 ( I needed some pieces to take measurement)

WNW never shrink wrap kits. That seems to be a thing that distributors do in North America once they receive stock from the manufacturers.

Some manufacture use little strips of tape or sticky patches to seal the boxes.  Whenever I get a new kit I open the box, carefully slicing through such tape so as not to damage the box by tearing it off.

I have 11-12 WNW boxed but almost certainly opened.  Can’t remember (without going to check) if I opened any inner bags.

Hi all,
I have 54 complete kits in the stash, primarily WNW but also Roden, Planet Models, Aviattic, CSM, Lukegraph, Omega.
Of those 33 are WNW kits.
All have been opened but only to check the parts (for missing, short shots etc),

I finally took a quick inventory of the Stash I swore to never have again after more or less liquidating it when I decided 1:32 Scale better suited my, ahem, "senior generation attributes and physical prowess" :-\ ::)There are 43 1:32 Kits there of which 24 are Wingnut Wings. 5 boxes are shrink wrapped, 3 Wingnut and two Roden. The Rodens were picked up at the Vendors Tables at a local Model Show and Contest and the 3 Wingnut Wings were bought by mail order from a large Canadian "brick and mortar" Hobby Shop. Those three are the Fokker E.1/II and two Camels of which I have other versions already, I suspect that's why they have not been opened. When I buy A/M items I normally toss them into the receiving Kit box to keep things organized however that system is not foolproof, I have more then once discovered some fool has already added a recently arrived item to the box previously and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the kit manufacturer! :-[

Lance

I have 42 WNW's and all have been fully opened. All the rest of the stash (@ 40+/- more kits) and those are all opened up too. I don't buy kits to resell, just build,......eventually.  Regards, Pete in RI
