Side Show: Aviatik C.I in 1/100th Scale
« on: October 15, 2023, 02:57:44 PM »
All,

While I mess with the Vimy and get ready to go across the country to a paper model convention, I am working on this little guy from Scissors and Planes.  I rigged it, painted the prop with clear orange and still need some details like control wires and the wheels.  But I wanted to show the status so far.  I really wish I'd taped and highlighted the rib tapes and some fuselage longerons, but maybe next time.

One of the themes for the convention this year is any paper model starting with "A".  This will fit the bill and should be dang easy to transport!  Tacoma to Virginia.  No worries.

Who knew these little guys were so addictive?!

Thanks for viewing the progress and back to the Vimy really soon...Dan

I just finished the little Aviatik.  I made my own balsa wheels and then added some post shading with my airbrush and a very thin dirty black/brown around some parts to break up the monochrome surface.  I like it a lot and I could certainly see a whole air force in this scale in the future.  No want for subjects!

Thanks for looking and now...back to the Vimy.

Thanks for indulging...Dan

P.S.  I was also bad. Look what came to my door step yesterday from Poland!  It's a sickness, really.

Nice addition to your air forces Dan.  Lots of details on this tiny subject.  It must be dwarfed in comparison to your 1/33 builds.

Nice little gem!
Have a number of his free kits and tried a Constellation in 200 or smaller but did not like my fuselage,
so it was scrapped.

Thanks, Folks!  It is certainly tiny compared to the 1/33rds.  Though it looks surprisingly nice and has visual "heft" in that it looks bigger than it is in pictures.

I like it!!!!

Fantastic. If Tiffany had made models I can only imagine they would have looked something like this.

Enjoy the con, Dan!

Thanks, Dutch.  You know...my first encounter with tiny detailed things was way back in the first or second grade.  My school (lived in NW D.C.) went to the Smithsonian on a field trip to see a collection of Faberge eggs.  I very clearly remember how amazing those little jewels looked to me.  Tiny stuff has fascinated me ever since! This little guy fits the bill in spades.

Thanks for the well-wishes.

Ha! That's funny, someone gave me a faux-Faberege egg Christmas ornament kit years ago when I was a kid, and it inspired much the same reaction.

Safe travels, take lots of pics!
