Spin 1/48 Sohaj Z-25 sailplane
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:59:56 PM »
While paused on the Avro, I have completed this within a week's time.  A simple resin kit of an obscure subject (but then, all sailplanes are obscure modeling subjects).

Spin Models 1/48 Zlin Z-25 'Sohaj'.  A sailplane that first flew in the late 1940's and was based on pre-war designs.  This is number 6 in my collection of 1/48 sailplanes.

Very nice! The great paint job matches this class of planes.
Looks like a single sear Bocian  ;)

Cheers,
Frank

Thank you all for the gracious comments.  These kits are quick building and offer a break from the more detailed and long term builds (I finish more than 2 models a year due to these kits!).
And I like the subjects.  I flew RC sailplanes before going back to model building.

Looks very nice, Ken. Yellow is notorious for opacity issues, it seems you had none. Any comments on the resin quality in the kit?

Hello Przemol.  Thank you for the kind comment.
Red, yellow, and white are notorious for lack of opacity.  I use the lack of opacity to an advantage.  First I primer everything with white primer (Tamiya spray), then use a pencil to draw in the separation lines around the moving flight surfaces.  Then I paint the yellow color, also Tamiya - chrome yellow for this one.  I use the same procedure for white sailplanes.  This emphasizes the lines without making them too harsh.
The resin in these Spin kits is the tan colored type used several years ago.  Good casting, but not exceptional detail.  At least there are very few bubbles in the Spin resin kits.

(The next one will be a SZD Polish subject)

Thanks for the clarifications, Ken.

I am looking forward to the Polish subject, I wonder which one it will be, SZD have been constructing numerous gliders since it was born just after WW2.
