Just a note on the Encore resin cowling. oddly they added the Rivet/bolt line around the front face, added the Drip Pan to the bottom, but Removed the proper indented piece from right below the prop opening. One can see this clearly on the F1 and Most Dr1's. This is why if you look closely at the Decals for the Mustache you will see that they go almost straight to the sides where as on the original they have a Downward bend. So as of now the best option is the Aviattic cowling. One other thing is that the resin Engine more closely represents the Lehrone vs the Obereousal. Another Odd thing is they designed the upper wing cross decals to fit thee Late Model Ailerons!

On the other hand - I got it very cheap!

Actually it is a Good kit and the resin engine and ailerons are good for the F1 prototypes! I painted all of the cross backgrounds so no loss on the decals  8)

This next set of photo's show Taurus's 1/32 Mono engine, and although not correct for the Triplane, it does show what their engines look like.

I have also had chance to stick a few parts together. I assembled the wings, filled sink holes, removed the spar inspection window (it's in the wrong place) and filled the slot/ depression in the tailplane.

While perusing period photo's of the wings, I did not see rib tapes. So, I dug into Achim Engels book, I read that the first examples had the fabric pinned to the ribs, and only after the wing accidents and the modifications required by Idflieg did the fabric become stitched to the ribs. So, for my F1 build, no tapes or stitch detail. I will add that for the later production Dr1 build.

Nice stuff, thanks! And also thanks for the info about the F.I not having rib tapes, saves some time! I wonder how the Aviattic ones look once applied.

Will post that shortly, but I think I had better move the actual builds over to "under construction" and keep this thread for the info only. I snipped off a section of Aviattics rib tapes this morning and placed it on a WNW D5 top wing and a Pfalz D3 top wing to compare. It did so very nicely, with the Aviattic being much narrower in width, (which will allow for the overlay of the actual decal tape, as pointed out in the instructions), The PE part is there to reproduce the raised stitching portion only, which makes sense, and you use decals to make the tape bit. The PE is very thin also, I think with a bit of care  these will work very well. Regards, Pete
