1/48 IS-2 Mucha sailplane
« on: December 30, 2019, 10:23:10 AM »
Started working on another Ardpol sailplane.  This is the IS-2 Mucha made around 1947.  It was intended to be a club plane, but it held a couple of world records for a while.

This kit is made of the older, dark tan resin that is very brittle.  It's going to fight me all the way.

I'm having issues with fisheyes in the primer coats, and the fuse halves have a bit of a warp in them.

Typical resin kit.

Looks great to date! We don't see many sail planes so looking forward to this one!

I've just been piddling around with a few models, not focusing on any one recently.
I got the overall color on this one.  One of the registration number decals was ruined when the kit got wet before I got it, so I am debating on whether to make new decals or make a painting mask to replace the ruined decal.

I got the markings on this one finally.  Due to water damaged decals in the kit, not all were useable, and some were too large.

Using my cutting machine, I made a paint mask for these large characters.  This worked better than the decals.

The upper side of the wing markings are kit decals, which were useable.  The fuse decals were too large (how can the kit mfg mess this kind of thing up?) and were re-made using testors decal paper.  I decided to make new decals instead of painting due to the tight space the markings were going in.  This decal film is odd in that the decals rolled up when put in water and had to be flattened out and held down while setting on the model.

Next will be a semigloss clearcoat to seal everything up.

That looks first class to me - I would not have guessed that you had made the underwing and fuselage markings.

Thanks for the comments, guys.  I'm happy with the results I'm getting using the cutting machine to make paint masks.  The decals in these Ardpol kits are a challenge due to how thin they are.

Wow, nice to see the familiar SP-*** markings - there are not so many models of the gliders, especially in Polish markings.

I have a satin clearcoat on it now.  A few details to be finished and its done.

All of Ardpol's sailplanes have Polish markings.  I have about 6 of them.
Too bad Ardpol seems to have gone out of business.  I like these kits and SZD sailplanes.

This one's in the display case now.

This leaves 3 more sailplane models to build.
