No problem,

Very busy as usual. Not too much in new releases.. Airfix has a 1/72 Vulcan - seemed to go down well with the crowd.

Best in Show:

Which was beautiful, but as ever, the judging was very random - some stunning models got nothing and some mediocre got golds. I never quite understand it..

Gotta do it all again tomorrow!

Edgar as ordered...

Yes, Fredrik - was awesome! Super busy Saturday, relatively quiet today.

Caught up with DrDave, but mike pulled a ‘sickie’, chatted with Richard at Aviattic. I bought stacks & stacks.. my credit card was smokin’  :P

Few more pics..

Edgar & CSM

Nice 1/72 model:

Beautiful scratch build, also in 1/72:

Super Eduard/ Roden Gladiator:

An example of a stunning model that didn’t even get a commended - 1/32 HPH DC-3. The finish was utterly flawless and must have taken months to finish. Gutted for the builder!

Hi Guy,
Yeah I was gutted at not being there.
For the past two weeks I've been trying to shake off a cold and cough.
Earlier this week I thought I'd cracked it, but it hit again on Thursday. There was no way I could have driven there, stalked the halls for three days then drive back, especially as my other half caught it as well.
I had planned 5 models, including my recent Sopwith 'Swallow', to be on the 'Great War SIG' display as well as entering my 'skeletal' Fokker D.VII into the Class 29 competition.

Nice to see your shots of so many great models and I have to agree with you - judging at these competitions sometimes does defy modelling logic.
Congratulations to all of the modellers for showing, competition or not, what this 'hobby' of ours really is - art.

Guy

Huge thanks to you for posting those great photos from Telford. Those of us whose credit cards would not allow us to attend really enjoy seeing the amazing builds and the depth of model talent out there.

Its also reassuring to see so many people there, a sure sign the hobby is in good heart.

cheers

My pleasure Dave,

No worries Mike, just shame I missed you. Hope you’re feeling better.

The Zoukei Mura stand In particular was mobbed on Saturday morning, they had piles of kits (all £100+) that sold out like sweets! I’ve never made one, but I was tempted as the quality looked amazing - they’ve a new Henschel 129 kit out.

Wingnuts was similar - I couldn’t get close for the first hour or so.

I bought a pile of kits on impulse - including an Ardpol Model 1/72 resin LVG C.VI - looks a nightmare build but lovely and thought I’d have a bash. Anyone heard of them? I also got a 1/48 Fairey Flycatcher - new injection moulded kit by Armory Models that could be beautiful in the right hands!

Thanks for the pics, Guy.
One thing I've learned from many years of going to contests is that you NEVER know what the judges will pick.

I have a high regard for Ardpol models.  They appear to have recently gone out of business, however.  I have build a few of their resin sailplane models.  Very subtle surface detailing.

Ah thanks Ken,

Yes, the model - although tiny - looks nicely moulded. But obviously, short run & resin, which will challenge me for sure!

Re judging, yep, it’s like buying a lottery ticket, but I think it’s a shame because it does de-value the competition. I can’t see how they come to some of their decisions - but I could go on all day about that..

Me too, thanks Guy.  Couldn't make the swim across this year, hopefully next. Did you get a close look at WNW's Dr1 perchance?  How well was our topic represented in the contest? Regards Pete in RI

No worries  ;)

Very well represented tbh - I think Wingnuts have been a game changer Pete.
