. I just wanted to show you an interesting picture. What Gotha was huge and complicated and the genius of early engineers.

Right, a very ambitious design. But still, it turned out too intricate. Simplicity is advantageous, apparently.

Thank you, Rick.

And here, what I feared most went fine - two largest bits glued together!!!

You must be relieved to have joined the fuselage to the lower wing without incident. I am pleased and amazed at how well you have done it - well actually not amazed really because I know an excellent modeller when I see their work and that is a fine example of excellent modelling.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Proceeding...

First time on its own feet (wheels :) )

And with wheels completed and engines aboard

And I just realised that I fear putting the struts and upper wings even more than joining the lower wing with fuselage... Will the struts and engine controls fit the wings? Soon I will know.

Don't worry...with what you've done so far, I'm convinced you can succesfully perform brain surgery... blindfolded and with one hand tied on your back. ;D

Stunning work - just stunning!

I have to say that I thought this plane was just too weird (and difficult) to contemplate for me but, built by your hands, I start to feel that the very strangeness of it makes it a very compelling subject and model. Certainly, amongst a collection of aircraft from WWI, I can imagine someone seeing it would have to say "You are kidding? They actually made and flew that thing???" And you have the ultimate conversation starter..."If you thought that was weird let me show you this..."  :o

Cheers
Alistair

Thank you, your positive input adds a lot to my progress.

The centre bay struts and the upper wings jumped on, the engine controls fitted perfectly! Rigging under construction

However, the outer panel struts are longer than the gap - some pushing will be necessary here. And probably also some tapering of cylindrical pins on the strut ends because the first dry fitting revealed that due to the dihedral of the outer wing panels the holes in the wings are not fully aligned with the struts and when I squeezed one strut into its holes the strut took S-shape  :o
But I will complete the rigging of four inner bays before pressing those remaining struts.
