WNW pfalz D111a
« on: April 20, 2016, 04:44:22 AM »
Hello everyone I am building my first WW1 kit for my first group build. I probably took on more than I can chew, but I am having fun and learning. Can anyone tell me about the lower wing fuselage join on the bottom of the wingnut wings pfalz d111a. Where the wing fillets meet the fuselage is there supposed to be a seam/step or should it be smooth no obvious seam or what should it be? I have searched for pics of the underside of this kit, but can't seem to locate anything. I would appreciate any advice on this. I have also read with much interest the discussion on Pfalz silbergrau being silver with no gray in it....what do you folks recommend for silbergrau. I was going to mix a ratio of vallejo model air silver 71063 with 71046 pale blue grey/rlm76, 2 or 3 to 1 ratio. I also use Tamiya paints. Any ideas? I appreciate any help you guys have to offer.

Screwball,
I use a silver and grey mix as well, in this case Model Master Enamels; a mix of 2/3 Flat Aluminum to 1/3 Medium Blue Grey (#2055) It tones down the silver effect and produces a nice "silver grey" effect.

If I did it again I'd try for roughly the same mix with Tamiya Acrylics, my new "paint of choice".
Cheers,
Lance

Hello Icarroll. Wow, you too have a magnificent pfalz there. This site is very inspiring. Would you use Tamiya xf23 light blue or xf18 medium blue for the mix? By the way, do you guys have any underside photos of your pfalzs. Thanks again
Cheers, Mike

Screwball,
Here's a couple of underside shots, hope they'll be helpful. As for the Tamiya blue I'd try the light blue first, it does have a "grey-blue" appearance.

Cheers,
Lance

Hi redbaron, just returned from a 4 day weekend, and read your post. The photo of the bottom of the pfalz was what I was looking for. You and Icarroll have been a great help. Thanks again.  :)
cheers, Mike
