German naval hex camouflage questions
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:46:41 AM »
Hi,

Just about read to have another go at my WNW Hansa Brandenburg W.12. I am going to paint the hex, and have some questions before I begin. WNW provides the decals in two distinct colour patterns, one for fabric portions and a much darker scheme on the plywood sections. Now here come the questions. Are there actually two different schemes one light and the other dark because they are painted that way?  Or are they the same colours applied to different surfaces giving a different appearance of one light and the other dark?  Is the pattern applied to fabric, painted on the fabric surface or was it an actually screen printed directly to the fabric before manufacture?  What about the wooden surfaces, did they apply fabric over the wood?  Did the approximate the fabric colours and paint them on?  Or was the intention have wooden surfaces appear distinctly different?

Thanks
Ron

Well thanks for answering that.  I am going to paint one set of colours for the hex.  I'll undercoat the plywood sections with black primer, and the fabric sections with white.  I've experimented with both and it seems to accomplish the colour shift I was looking to achieve.
