Question about Part PE
« on: December 05, 2015, 06:35:30 AM »
I have been seeing a lot about Part PE and saw they have a set for the Roden Spad VIII. Would that also work for the most part in a Spad XIII?
Secondly are they a worth while AM set to buy?

I have the SPAD VII in set in 1/32nd and will check later tonight to see if I think anything is of use for the XIII. That being said, Richard at Aviattic has promised some upgrades for the Hobbycraft kit if you are talking 1/32nd?

Mixed bag. Nice radiator grilles etc, but the idea you would make a control column out of 3-5 flat bits sandwiched? Nahh...worth a cheap punt on eBay but little is visible.

Their PE frets are huge - hundreds of pieces.

However, you are best to pick & choose what you want. Some of the parts are just too small to use, some involve too much folding & gluing and end up looking just like folded and glued bits of PE.

But if you use the main parts, they certainly do add some detail & sharpness to a model. I've most of their WWI 1/32 sets and personally I'd recommend them, with the proviso that you pick & choose what to use.

Thanks everyone. I do have Richards upgrades ordered, but I think they are probably coming with the truck order. I also have a cockpit from down under. Just looking to see if there is anything else that would help. Appreciate all the feedback.

I was mistaken about having the Part SPAD VII PE from Part. It seems I went for the Eduard set and there is nothing there that would be very useful for the XIII.

there are some parts you can use from the part of poland spad vii pe set for the hobby craft spad xiii, mainly the metal brackets on the wings which act as a uni-washer for strut mount bolts, other metal brackets and such, the seatbelts , throttle, some other odds and end cockpit parts like perhaps the rudder bar and framing for it,prop boss, most likely exhaust nozzles, probably the bell cranks if you wish to use pe on this type thing. there are spokes for wheels which could be used there or elsewhere.all in all maybe a bit less than half could be used on a xiii to dress it up.there are cowl fasteners which may be useful elsewhere as well. its not a cheap pe set but there are 3 frets of decent size. which could perhaps be used on various other odd and end type stuff. it kinda worth it if you dont mind spending the money for just a bit of extra detail.
