Junkers D.1 early Roden 1/48 WIP
« on: March 21, 2016, 10:03:18 PM »
Just as Marc I am, too, working on a D.1 build. Currently I'm somewhat stuck with some details:

A) Seatbelts (I have bought a PE upgrade set from eduard but I am a bit unsure of which version I should use)
B) Cockpit Details (I have bought an Airscale decal sheet but again I am unsure which ones to use)

Since I am new to WWI Aaircraft modelling it would be cool if someone could give me  a hint on these questions.
I have attached some reference photos / drawings for both.

Also enclosed is a WIP picture of the D.1 still in its subassemblies testfitted and primed with black alclad primer and sprayed with the corresponding "polished aluminium".

Any advice highly appreciated! Thanks for watching!

Hi Slateman,

Yes, always, these decisions, but I'm sure at the end you'll find yourself choosing the right.
I am very curious how it goes here, looks very interesting. :D

Regards

Jörg

Hello Slateman looking very good so far.
When it comes to instruments it looks like it is a fuel gauge although I'm not 100% sure. I'm waiting for the delivery of my set of airscale's decals but I'm pretty sure you can find one in the set.
You should use the late type harness it's part number 1 and 2 in Eduard's set.
Best regards
Filip

When it comes to the gauge, now I`m 100% sure it`s a fuel gauge, just look here it is:

Are you going to replace the kit`s Spandau`s ? I hope so ;)
Best regards
Filip

Thanks for the picture. Yes, i will. Have already built one of them from a Master PE / turned metal set. I am not 100% satisfied with my assembly of the Spandau. So I will try it again. Have got two of these sets so I will continue to practise until I am fully satisfied. Hope to finish the interior / motor soon. Can't wait to start work on the fuselage, wings and stabilizers. I have also tried to carve in the (negative) corrugated metal structure to the inside of the fuselage (will post pictures of it soon).

Hi Slateman! I'm really pleased that you started a thread for your Junkers here! It's looking really good and the extra detail you're adding is wonderful. Mine will be straight out the box so your extra detail will be really good to watch! Yes, I also think those late seatbelts are the best choice and I agree the guns could do with extra detail... Good to see you tackling this!

Regards,

Marc

my opinion although i have not seen photos is the standard 4 point seatbelts. this was the normal seatbelts for german fighters from 1916 to the end of the war. if you notice that type was used in all fighters that we have photos for starting in 1916.all the albatros d. series, all pfalz fighters d.iii,d.iiia,d.xii,fokker d.vii, roland fighters, etc. all used these. the 2 seaters mostly used the lap belt with cloth or leather torso patch attached to widen the coverage. i am 99% sure the junkers d.i would use this too.this is parts 1 and 2 on the eduard photoetch set.

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I am still looking for hints and tips for "which gauge goes where" on the instrument panel.
This is why I uploaded the plan views (out of Junkers D.I at war by Albatros). As I judge it by this illustration the gauges go in the center between the two flat sides right onto the frame. The switches or "cocks" for A-D sit on the right hand side on the flat panel. As I judge it the Roden kit doesn't offer any parts for these. How do u usually (scratch-) build them?
