Hello all,

This is a First Edition (1933) of The History of British Aviation 1908-1914 by R. Dallas Brett. It is a single volume and makes no reference to there being two volumes as I have found there to be in some cases. Can anyone shed light?

"Extremely detailed reference covering all aspects of pre WWI British aviation. Appendices include: Results of Principal Races, List of British Pilots (inc. those qualified in the USA and France) etc. Roll of Honour of British Pilots killed in Fatal Accidents."

It is in quite good condition considering its age. The binding is tight and there are no loose pages. The pages are clean and unmarked throughout. There is shelf wear to the cover edges and the DJ has several small tears at the spine and top. The previous owner's name has been whited-out.

Prices vary wildly on the various websites in the UK and US.

I'm asking $50.00 and will pay shipping in the CONUS.

Thanks for having a look.

Michael

PS Pictures upon request.

your post made me curious so i did a quick search and perhaps the 1st edition in 1933 was 1 volume and later editions (1937?) was split in 2 volumes as photos show their clearly marked vol 1 and vol 2 . this is only a theory from poking around and seeing a set for sale with the same name and author with a 1937 date of publiction. then again the 2 volume set only says "the history of british aviation" it doesnt say 1908-1914. maybe vol 1 is what you have and later they added a volume 2 hopefully 1915-1919 :)

Interesting to conjecture, eh.

This volume looks full of what I'd call Des Scratch Build Targets. Those Magnificent Men!

more research has created more confusion, there seem to be several versions, dates from 1933 to 1988, page counts ranging from 288 to 423 for single volume with sizes ranging from small 8vo(5 1/2" x 8 1/2") to larger  8vo (7 3/4" x 9 3/4") to 4to (9 1/2" x 12"). if you dont mind what does the book measure roughly and what is the page count? i saw one description say 35 b&w illustrations is that photos? are there many drawings? to be honest not sure if i can afford it right now as i only started working again 2 weeks ago but i am intrigued.

Hello, all...sorry for the slow response.....

OK....the book measures 6 1/2" X 10" and there are 388 pages. The binding is very solid and there are no markings to the pages. There are many B&W photos as well as three view line drawings of A.C. and a lot of lists. The DJ is still in one piece but exhibits some tearing at the edges. I would describe it as being in good condition, very good considering its age.

(Sorry for the poor photos.)

As always seems to be the case, prices on Amazon and Abe Books range wildly. Copies in similar condition seem to be averaging around $50.00  that is what I am asking.  Shipping in CONUS is $5.00 and overseas depends on destination. I only accept PayPal.

If anyone is interested, please email me directly at [email protected]

Thanks for having a look.
