Hello everyone,
I have had the Blue Max 1/48 Halberstadt D.II in the stash for a while now and thought i'd finally get stuck into it. I've always liked the sharp look of the early Halberstadt fighters, and the Blue Max kit is pretty much the only game in town, unless you can find one of the older (and rough) cottage industry resin kits which are rather old and dated by today's standards.
Having built a Blue Max kit (their Snipe) before, I know what I am in for. The kit, as expected, has lots of flash and thick parts, but very good outlines. Today I made a start on the fuselage, namely clean up, thinning of the cowl area, and test fitting with a Karaya Mercedes D.III engine (which on the whole will probably suffice for a Mercedes D.II engine, though I do have an Argus AsII on the way from CSM which may be substituted, depending on whether I want to convert this to a Halb D.III). The fit is actually pretty good when it's all cleaned up.

I suspect this one will be a slow project

Cheers,
BC
