German U Boot washed ashore at Hastings after tow failed
« on: April 22, 2014, 07:42:31 AM »
I never realised the WWI german U Boots were so large:

The surrendered Type II boat was due to be transferred to France but the tow parted and she went aground at Hastings in April 1919

If you are ever in Chicago, be sure to visit the U-505. For years it was outside, nowadays it is inside an absolutely gigantic hall...

Fascinating James, thanks for the posting. Like you, the size surprises me and they must have created a sense of awe and fear amongst who went to view it.

Best wishes
Nigel

Here is a propaganda postcard showing  a map of the British Isles and the locations of the last year's losses due to the U-Boot war. "England's Not" translates as England's Torment (according to an online translation website)
