Look what flew over today
« on: March 10, 2014, 02:50:21 PM »
I was sitting at my model bench and heard the sound of a multi radial engined plane, so I grabbed my camera and raced outside to see the Lockheed Super Constellation flying over, I snapped off a couple of shots without having the time to make any settings on the camera, but the sound of the four radial engines was music to my ears.
The Connie belongs to the HARS museum just north of where I live, it is restored to the original Qantas colours, it flies down to HMAS Albatros, just south of me, for a regular service, HARS stands for Historical Aircraft Restoration Society and is based at Albion Park, NSW, Australia.

A unique looking craft, the Connie.  Airfix used to have a 1:72 kit of this - I had one but botched it up so badly I had to bin it.  The kit was a bit of a pig to be honest, raised panel lines which didn't match up from one fuselage half to the other, ill fitting decal stripe over the windows etc.  This was about 3 years ago so I would do a much better job now, but the kit is scarce these days.

The kit is still around, albeit harder to find, and Fisher mold and pattern makes some beautiful engine/cowl/prop correction, as well as flaps, and tip tanks. Paul Fisher is an honest man to do business with as well.
