LOOKS Terrific! I like the decision to go with red markings instead of black! It makes sense and who knows? Dr. Glenn Merrill had this bird pegged as a Jasta 4 aircraft which may be where the black came in in the first place? I think it was the outlining of the tail that sent his thoughts to Jasta 4. As the others said, the see through lozenge and subtle weathering are beautiful!

Keith,

Your DVII is looking great.  Did you have any problems getting the cowling to fit properly - if so, how did you get all to fit in place right?

Regards

Dave

Hi Keith, just wanted to say you have done a terrific build and finish here, all looks utterly superb. The loz looks awesome and you nailed the red colours very well indeed, never an easy colour to use.

Very impressed.

Martin.

Thanks again guys. building u courage waiting for a steady hand moment to tackle the prop laminations.  :D

Dave the cowls... Yes well I'm aware of issues with the cowls from other builds. Yes I did mod them to fit bit also to make them more correct.

Besides judicial thinning of the front edge to get a more scale appearance I sanded the chin cowl sides right down  quite thin  to match. Also extended the chin cowl back between the U/C front legs about 3mm and reshaped and shortened the front of the panel behind to the frame cross member. This panel should wrap around the edge on the earlier DVII's so I added the lip to the fuselage sides and filled the seam between it and the fuselage sides. I would have preferred WNW to give is optional fuselages for the different  styles as with my first build  I dropped her after painting and that thin unstrengthened seam broke leaving an ugly hard to hide scar. While working there I cut back the U/C mounting stubs towards the frame in this area too to gain a more in-scale appearance.

Intake side I had to shave some off the inner face and the manifold to get her to sit right which wasn't an issue as the panel is quite thick so at scale the manifold would be fine without the cowl on. Apart from thinning the upper exhaust side cowl fitted fine (needs securing though around the rad filler area I noticed.

As built the side cowls would sit flush with the fuselage but I added a strip of styrene to the rear close to the edge to butt against the frame lugs and lift the back just proud of the fuselage sides.

Nothing too difficult it just takes some thinking about  ???

Anyone building Just's mount should be aware of the odd panel behind the side cowl that I guessed as the lip of a aluminium firewall affair lining the fabric fuselage sides. That and what I decided was a welded mod to fill the old low type exhaust  outlet location in the sidecowl above the access door.
