« on: July 09, 2013, 05:04:41 PM »
Flying off to Italy in a few weeks and was wondering if there is any museums or model shops in the Pisa/Florence areas of Tuscany that anyone knows of.

TIA........Dave.

Hello Dave,

If you're going to have a hire car and don't mind driving a little way, there is the Francesco Baracca Museum at Lugo, just east from Bologna and if cars interest you'll not be far from the other wearer of the Cavalino Rampante, Ferrari at Maranello, near Modena and of course, their arch rivals, Lamborghini at Santa Agata. Both have splendid museums.

have a great Holiday!

hi dave,

to romagna from florence will be a nice "jump" across to the mountains of the Apennines, enjoy the ride! through this area might be interesting to look at the places that hosted the Gothic Line:
http://www.goticatoscana.eu/IT/

you may cross via highway, or use secondary roads. it's on you. the secondary are slow, but full of sights to see, depends on how much time you have!

also, if you extend the trip:

and once you're in the plains of Emilia Romagna, perhaps you might consider taking a leap here:

otherwise, to the south, and here the journey from the florence area is smoother and faster, there is the museum's Air Force, which I definitely recommend to see:

enjoy! ;)

MC65,
thanks for the links, most interesting.Have a special interest in the PO valley area as the regiment I served in,I believe, fought in this area during WW2.
I would dearly love to see all the sites of interest that have been pointed out to me,unfortunately,I do not think the wife will be best pleased with visiting all of them. This trip is a bit of dipping our toes to test the water holiday wise as we have never holidayed in Italy until we went to Venice in May for 3 days, which kindled a sharp desire after having such a wonderful time there.Perhaps a 'bribe' of something shiney and expensive may placate her.
Again, thanks for the replies and links.

Dave.

ah ah! I know, I know...

I have recently returned from a "romantic" trip to Normandy and Brittany ... the trick is to alternate historical sites with a beautiful sunset, a good restaurant, and ... well, something brilliant certainly can help!

have fun, Italy is a strange country, but beautiful.
cheers, p.

PS by the way, I love your avatar, the fat freddy's cat! good old gilbert shelton...

Oh crimes if,  you cant have a good time in Tuscany, you may as well be dead!

It's heaven. Don't miss Siena, drink Barolo, see a museum of the inquisition, urrrgh Gestapo Mongous methods. I found the old Macchi factory by accident.
