WNW Pfalz D.XII

Hello all, just wanted to give you a look at my Wingnut Wings Pfalz D.XII. I used an assortment of Lifecolor, Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics but had to change schemes half way due to some shoddy airbrush work. I experimented with making my own turnbuckles, with ..erm...variable results. They got better as I went along. Anyone got good tips for turnbuckles?

Your build looks good as do your turnbuckles. Great tips are right here on the forum and more so right on Des' main website. Bobs Buckles and Gaspatch, both of whom are on this DG will provide supplies for your turnbuckle pleasure!!

Hello Rhinocrat:

Nicely done DXII.  I really like the looks of this airplane and the color schemes are "colorful" as well and yours is no exception.  I think you did a great job on the turnbuckles and an outstanding job overall.  I did one a while back and it is one of my favorites, I will be doing another at some time.  There aren't too many being built and it is nice to see one and a nice one at that.

Fantastic job and what was that about the turnbuckles? Maybe I don't have very good eyesight but I cannot see anything to be worried about there. The painting is also excellent - in fact an all round first class build. Congratulations.

Many thanks for the kind words. I have always been a fan of the D.XII since I made the Blue Max and Toko kits back in the day and collected a whole load of reference material for the builds. I've never understood why it's not more popular as a subject. As for the turnbuckles I should point out that the picture shows one of the later attempts- they dont all look that good! At the moment I'm fiddling around experimenting with green stuff to enhance various kit parts while I decide which of my WNW stash to start next. Meanwhile, here are a couple more pix.

I like the model a lot.  The leather around the cockpit looks perfect,
the paint is very attractive and I think you have done a very
credible job on the turnbuckles.  The propeller looks great as well.

Green Stuff is a 2-part putty, a little like Milliputt that can be used to make original parts or to modify kit parts. I'm trying to learn how to make figures with it, but it's early days. I've had some success replicating the asbestos cladding on a WNW mercedes D.III intake manifold though. I might post some pictures when it's finished.

They look just fine to me..  Don't fix what ain't broken.  Kudos on a great build..
