205 Squadron DH.9a - 'All Work and Some Play'
« on: September 08, 2025, 06:33:46 AM »
Another one finished recently

Yet another DH.9a, this time one of 205 Squadron RAF, formerly No.5 Squadron RNAS. Being equipped with the DH.9a in September 1918 205 Squadron was engaged with the bombing of Ports and German Airfields until the end of the war. 'F1019', built by Westland as far as I can tell served with 205 squadron for its entire career claiming 1 enemy aircraft kill in the former of a "Silver Grey Fokker". I have modelled this aircraft as being fully decked out for a flight with a full complement of bombs underneath. Sister aircraft 'F1010' from the same batch of aircraft is the only surviving DH.9a in the world and can be found at RAF Hendon and used as inspiration in this builds paint scheme. I decided to use the larger fuselage serial instead of the smaller one as the larger numbers look better in my opinion.

again any advice or things i could improve on with the underside is appreciated

Figures in this scene are from Kellerkind, i quite liked the little scene of the crew walking to their aircraft while one of their faithful dogs tags along.

First class in every department. The playful dog certainly adds a unique aspect to the vignette and distracts from the awful potential concealed under the wings.

Very nice work all round Sam. The plane is great, I really like the way you did the CDL undersides, and the figures are a nice touch. Excellent vignette!

This is equally impressive as the 221 squadron 9A.

I am in awe with the results of both these models.

Hats off!

Not only a great piece of work but it also has a dog in it!

Gorgeous. Those DH.9 / DH.9a kits are surely among best WNW ones.
