Bad day at the office
« on: July 05, 2025, 04:27:11 AM »
Bit of disaster getting some models out for the show on Sunday  :'(

Glass shelf collapsed onto the shelf of models below. A few minor damaged models which I'll get round to repairing, but sadly this lot bore the brunt of the impact and are probably for the scrap heap (or at least in need of major rebuilds) Represent about 12 months worth of modelling . . . .

And the other couple

Couple of figures on the Jasta diorama were damaged and the odd wheel on a couple of others which can be repaired with a bit of care, but sadly these are looking the worse for wear

That is a catastrophe without a doubt - a modellers nightmare. I do hope that you can restore at least a couple of them.

I also have glass shelves but I have made sure that they are stable - and now I know why!!

Cheers Stephen, These things happen ( I dropped a box of packed figures at a show many years ago causing some damage that was repairable) This little lot sadly will take some effort. As you say a couple should be repairable without the damage being visible, others are likely to be broken up for parts or re-built in other ways (I'm thinking the LVG is going to end up in a minor crash diorama . . . maybe) ???

Noooooo! That stinks! And it seems neither puppies or kittens were involved. Small consolation might be that even broken they still look pretty amazing.

  :D thanks Warren.
(Puppies and kittens definitely banned from the workroom, although I am wondering why) Still the sun will keep shining and they've given a lot of pleasure even if they can't be repaired (and I think a couple can without it showing)

As you say Paul, these things happen.
The V.23 looks repairable and it's the rarest of them, and a scrach build if I remember correctly...

Don't scrap them! If they cannot be repaired one of two things could be done. A crash schene diorama or alternatively a post armistice scene whereby aircraft were piled up in a field. I saw an archive picture of this, it was in Italy or the former AHE and the aircraft piled up were war reparations to Italy. There must have been similar pictures elsewhere of both aircraft and equipment if googled.

Yep the V23 was a scratchbuit. Undercarriage is brass and can be straightened out with wheels being drilled out and brass axle fitted. Wing should bend back into position and hopefully won't need too much touching up. I've started with the Floh which has similar damage; once that's done I'll tackle the V23.  :D

Good idea Alan (When say scrap I'm thinking more of complete rebuilds rather than break up for pieces)
I'll start with the two simple repairs and then look at the Albie and Pfalz. Suspect both will need top wing/rigging removed so these may give the opportunity to give them a repaint in different schemes  :-\ (I was rooting through various books this morning to see how much extra work would be involved)
The LVG and DR1 took most of the impact. The Dr1 is the first model I built and all the plastic struts need replacing (I've got some spares) - time for a new scheme on this one methinks  ;) The LVG is a tricky one, but liek you I'm thinking a rebuild into a landing 'crash' will work. I'll sort the others out first and then take a closer look

How shockingly devastating for you, Paul! What a mess to have to deal with. A terrible event in the life of a modeller (and it's happened to me a few years ago in a smaller way but luckily nothing was un-fixable). Good luck with your repairs!

An opportunity for some different schemes on the Albie and Pfalz maybe . . .  :-\
