Horizontally mounted Salmson engine

This is an odd setup.

Found it in ZEITSCHRIFT F?R FLUGTECHNIK UND MOTORLUFTSCHIFFAHRT' of 1919.

Has anyone seen this before?

I would say this is the setup for a swivelling propeller on an airship. The British Parseval airships had them (but not with Salmson engines) as did the R23 class. It wouldn't suprise me if some French airships had the same thing given it's a Samson engine. The props could swivel to face down making the airship a helicopter of sorts. Whether or not the Germans, Italians or Americans did this I don't know.

This is a 9 cylinder Salmson Canton-Unne Type V.  A 7 cylinder version of this engine was fitted to the single-engined Dorand Armoured Bomber prototype.

These images show the two-row 18 cylinder 2M7 (left), and the 9 cylinder Type D horizontal - a much more powerful unit than the previous horizontal types.
