A small update on a specific topic; I know that for quite a number of months now many of us (myself included) have been afflicted with a forum issue whereby no e-mail notifications are being sent to members regarding a number of things, including:
- Private Message (PM) receipts
- Notifications regarding new posts to subscribed threads
Some members may also be having issues with PMs not sending, nor being present in inboxes or outboxes once sent.
The interesting thing is that this seems to be affecting some members, but not all, and in varying ways.
A week or so ago I raised a ticket with our web provider to have these issues looked into. There have been several attempts to fix this issue but it seems to be stumping them a little bit. Rest assured, they are still working this issue and we will aim to do so to resolution, one way or another.
I also believe that some of these issues may be due to the fact that the software set up is effectively the same as what the original forum owner, Des, set up back in 2012. This means that things are quite old and clunky in many regards. I am starting to explore options for forum software upgrades, but this is a longer term proposition and may turn out to be a bit expensive; we'll see.
I would ask please that if members want to record the issues that they are having with PMs, thread subscription notifications, and so on, that they add them to this thread. That way I can start to build a picture of how many people are affected, and the nature of the problems that you are seeing. I can then point our website hosts to this thread so that they can see the issues from the collective horse's mouth.
I'll post updates here as I have them.
