1/48 Eduard Fokker E. I
« on: September 23, 2023, 07:15:17 AM »
This is a conversion from the 1/48 Eduard Fokker E.III. All I really had to do was omit the fuel cap behind the pilot, change the wing step plates, and scratch the ammunition feed and brass collection plate. I also scratch built the fuselage underside details and added photo etch lacing.
This aircraft probably had the rotary ammunition feed on the right side which would change the metal cheek bulge to a different shape.  I couldn’t find any pictures of the right side to confirm so left it as is.
This aircraft was first of six late production E.1’s sold to the German naval air command (Luftstreitkrafte) in 1915.  LF.70 is the only one painted in this coloring.

The Eduard kit interior is almost all 2 dimensional photo etch. It surprisingly built up pretty well.

This is an older kit before Eduard upgraded their injection molding system.  Lots of flash and rough surfaces.  It does clean up well though.
.
Thanks for looking in!
Tim

Awesome work Tim, I love the colour scheme and your representation of the turned metal cowls!

Genuine question - did the E.I carry the 9 cylinder Oberursal U.1? I thought that they predominantly carried the 7 cylinder U.0? I am guessing some probably had the U.1 fitted as presumably the mounting was the same?

Great stuff!

Cheers,

Oh No!  You are correct Brad.  I completely overlooked that detail in my eagerness to paint one in this scheme.  I won’t be able to change the engine on this 1/48 build but possibly could on the smaller one.  Thank you for pointing this out.  I’m really embarrassed though!  lol 😂

Love this one, Tim, brings back memories of the Revell 1:72 kit, which I built several times back in the 1960s... and that unique color scheme really makes this one a standout. That sworl effect came out really well, too.

Certainly a very striking colour scheme but what is more amazing is the metallic finish and oils staining and general signs of wear. They are incredibly realistic.

A quite fine little Eindecker. Interesting colour scheme, too.
