On the net they say at the site where this photo comes from that this is Roland Garros Morane Saulnier Type N
Am I on the right track going by this?

He did not fly a Type N in combat, Sir.

The armed machine he flew was a Type L parasol. There are a couple of pictures of it, and it had no particular markings, aside from ordinary service markings, and the usual black trim of Morane-Saulnier.

Before the war, in a racing meet at Aspern, Austria, he flew a machine designated Type N. This differed considerably from the eventual production 'Type N militaire which your picture illustrates. It had a circular section fuselage with a projecting headrest (on the production version, the headrest was faired into the fuselage, giving it a pear-shaped section).

Its appearance was very similar to this (my early scratch-build of the prototype Type N militaire flown by Gilbert:

Of course, the pre-war racer did not have a gun.

The windsock Datafiles on the Morane-Saulnier Type L Parasol, and on the TYpes N, I, and V monoplanes, have solid information and photographs on this.

Thank you Old Man,

Then what or who's machine is the one above in the photo? please.
At the site where that photo came from they say its Roland Garros Morane Saulnier Type N.
I already did the texture for it so now I need to find out what or who's machine it is.

There is a decent chance the drawing you found is based on a Type N flown by Jean Navarre, and early ace a 'wild child' of the French air service.

Here is a decent picture of his Morane N:

Follow this link for more on it, and on Navarre:

http://www.navarre-jean.com/moransaulnier.htm

http://www.navarre-jean.com/sesavions.htm

The number on the fin is not an indication of escadrille, but its serial. 393 is very early, only the fifth or sixth of the production type built.

Escadrille MS.12 (Morane-Saulnier 12) is the French unit most often mentioned as having a number of Type N machines, and this was Navarre's unit.

But I have not seen any photograph that corresponds to your drawing.

Red, by the way, is very unlikely for the nose. That was a recognition marking introduced by the English in July, 1916, by which time the French had pretty well abandoned the type. Most came from the factory with black noses, some had metal panel painted buff, from an early period.

Your drawing is one of the marking options for an Eduard 1/48 kit of the type, so you might find something on their site.

Here is a link to a model with a similar scheme you might like:

Hope this is of some help, sorry I did not notice your post earlier.

Its going to have to stay like that as I am putting it out in a few hours for download,
I also did a black nose texture one as well so at lease one of them will be some what correct.

Thanks again.
