Just got back from the Bastille Day firework celebrations. This year we came down to Carcassonne to give ourselves a break. The fireworks themselves were good rather than brilliant, but what makes this display outstanding is the absolutely breathe-taking backdrop of the re-constructed medieval Cité. If you don't know Carcassonne, just Google it. It was also the setting for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Last year 7-800,000 people came for the display.
The worst thing was getting the wheelchair up from the viewing point on the nearby new bridge to the Cité and then up the steep cobbled streets inside to our hotel. But people were very kind.
