Help with an antique
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:36:50 PM »
Hi all,

I thought I'd put this out to the collective wisdom to help me figure out what I've got. It's this:

It just occurred to me that I didn't put anything in for scale, but it's not that long. Maybe 80 cm. it belonged to my great grandfather, whom I'm told was an officer in the French army in the Great War, prior to emigrating to Canada. Supposedly this is his officer's sword.

Does anyone have any expertise in this sort of thing, or at least know the appropriate forum to go to for help on identifying this? I'm curious to find what the backstory is on it, even if it's something as pedestrian as, "he got it out of the Eaton's catalogue." Don't worry about shooting holes in family pride. I just want to know either way.

I figured this would be a good place to start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Lindsay

Wow, Red, that's incredible! Thanks very much! I knew if I reached out here there'd be someone that would know.

Is this something you're interested in, or are you just a very efficient and selfless Googler?
